English Below

Kindle Every Dream

A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.

Another experience involving death also played a significant role in why I founded KED.

Years ago, when I had just started training for my first marathon in the United States, I began experiencing unusual health symptoms. After undergoing medical examinations, doctors suspected that I might have a certain autoimmune disease.

“Youl could die. I’ve lost my patients ー a mother and child ー to the same condition.”

That was what a neurologist said to me.

From that moment on, I began thinking, from time to time, about what I might leave behind after I am gone. I wanted to create something meaningful. Since classical music had been a part of my life since childhood, the idea of establishing a foundation connected to the arts began to take shape in my mind.

Then, more recently, my financial planner said something to me that stayed deeply with me:

“People who spend most of their lives focused on saving money sometimes later regret that they never thought enough about how to spend it meaningfully.”

I realized that while I had been busy thinking about what I wanted to leave behind after death, perhaps there was another option — to fulfill those wishes while I am still here.

Starting a large foundation immediately might not be realistic, but perhaps I could begin with a general incorporated association. If so, maybe I could gather support from others as well, and help not only children, but more young people pursue their dreams.

And if I was going to create an organization, I did not want it to reflect the traditional image often associated with charity in Japan — something tied only to emergencies, self-sacrifice, or quiet virtue.

Instead, I wanted it to feel more like the culture of giving I had experienced in the United States: something more joyful, more personal, and more connected to everyday life. Something playful yet stylish. An organization people would not simply donate to once and forget, but one they would genuinely want to stay involved with over time.

I wanted it to reflect who I am, centered around the worlds I personally love — classical music and combat sports.

That is how the concept of KED gradually came together.

The name KED stands for:

Kindle Every Dream.

To help light a flame within every dream.

It is also connected to one of my favorite quotes:

“A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.”

No flame becomes smaller by sharing its light with another. By giving to others, we lose nothing ourselves.

I sincerely hope that everyone who becomes involved with KED will feel the same spirit through this journey together.

I truly appreciate your support as we begin this new endeavor.
